GREEN HILLS GOLF COURSE IN CLYDE OHIO – WORTH THE TRIP

WRITTEN BY: LOVELL DIGGINS JR.

Let me start out by saying that I’ve been playing this game of golf since the mid 90’s and have been fortunate to have had the pleasure of playing golf in multiple states like Florida, South Carolina, and Nevada to name a few. Needless to say, the expectation of the experience when traveling is usually pretty high and perhaps not so high for the courses normally played. Don’t get me wrong, there are some very nice courses within a 30-40-minute drive from my home here in Holland Ohio, and if we decide to drive outside of that area you better believe you can definitely find some great courses. That would be the case for Green Hills Golf Course in Clyde Ohio.

I personally had not heard of the course until a guy approached us as we were settling up our bets at another course the week before. He informed us that he had just played Green Hills, and he seemed very excited about the experience to the point where it drew our curiosity and I scheduled tee times for us for the following week.

Let me just say, that we were not at all disappointed with the experience. From the putting greens to the course it self, everything was well maintained and the course layout made it a pleasant experience and a challenge.

Sometimes you get to the course early in order to get a little practice in and that includes trying to get a feel for the putting greens, and you get out on the course only to find that the actual putting greens are not like the one you just spent 30 minutes practicing on. Well, that’s not the case at Green Hills, “what you see is what you get”. I felt the greens on the course were comparable to the practice greens.

For me, the experience started with hospitality and friendliness of the personnel there at the course. This can sometimes set the tone for the day, so it was nice to experience the good vibes from them through-out the time there.

The course is a par 71 with 5 tee boxes. The front 9 is a par 36 with 2 back to back par 5’s. We decided to play the blue tees which made the course a little over 6000 yards, and good for our senior group. The highlight of the course for me was the beautiful 109-yard par 3. This hole has an elevated tee box with a stream running in front of the green, a winding path that takes you to the hole and oh, yes, an out of bounds to the left, so yes, you’d be wise to hit a good shot here. Missing can turn into a 5 or 6, really easy.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for a new challenge and don’t mind taking a trip to Clyde Ohio, I recommend Green Hills Golf Course. I enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to visiting again hopefully in the near future.
